Four members of the Turkish security forces were martyred Friday in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.
The Turkish General Staff said that two soldiers and one police officer had been “critically injured” in an attack staged by a “separatist terror organization” – a reference to the PKK. The army added that the attack occurred in the Sur district.
“Those injured were rushed to the hospital, but they succumbed to their wounds despite all interventions, becoming martyrs at about 05:45 [0345GMT, Friday],” the army said.
In addition to three, another police officer has been martyred in the anti-terror operation against the PKK, also in Sur district, on Friday.
The police officer, who was critically wounded in the operation, died later at Diyarbakir Military Hospital reported an Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene.
The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.
Since then, more than 270 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
